Signals Through Music and Dance

We used realistic virtual avatars generated with a 3D game engine to compare the two competing hypotheses on evolutionary origins of music and dance - social bonding and coalition signalling. Participants were shown dancing avatar groups that were engaged in different forms of coordinated dance.

Timbre Perception Test (TPT)

We developed the TPT with the aim to provide a useful tool for the music psychology community for measuring individual differences in timbral perception. In light of the existing literatures on dimensions of the timbre space, the TPT examines participants’ ability to reproduce the heard stimuli along the dimensions of envelope, spectral centroid, and spectral flux.
